AIOPA - Monthly Meeting

Atlanta Inter-Orthodox Parish Association Meeting 11/26/2024

 Attendees: Fr. Christos Mars, Mirjana Brockett, Spyridoula Fotinis, Johanna Karas and Evelyn Kemp

 Opening Prayer offered by Fr. Christos Mars.

Fr. Christos also mentioned that preparations are underway for the Pan-Orthodox Candlelight Service and Christmas Concert which will take place on Sunday, December 22 at the Annunciation Cathedral at 5pm. As of today, we have 8 choirs participating:

·      The Annunciation Cathedral Choir

·      The Annunciation Cathedral Men’s Choir

·      The Holy Transfiguration Choir

·      The Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Choir

·      The Saint Elias Choir

·      The Saint John the Wonderworker Choir

·      The Saints Constantine and Helen Romanian Choir

·      The Saint Mary’s Romanian Choir

Those from other communities who may not have full choirs, they are welcome to join the Annunciation Cathedral Choir and represent your communities. A flier has already been sent to all the communities and is also attached to the email to promote this event. Please continue to promote this event to all in your communities.

Assembly of Bishops

Spyridoula gave us an update on the AoB and mentioned that they are working on ways to do things with the members of AIOPA in Atlanta to help inspire other IPAs as they begin to grow. She also shared that there are three new groups that are staring to launch for the first time, and we are looking forward to them becoming IPAs in 2025.

Other Parish Events:

·      The Annunciation Cathedral will host the Pan-Orthodox Candlelight Service and Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 22, 2024, starting at 5pm.

·      St. Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene is hosting a food drive called “The Place” which brings food to people in Forsyth County. The community is doing this for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. On December 7, they will host a pancake breakfast with Santa.

·      Sts. Peter and Paul are doing some fundraisers for children in the Balkans and recently had a music group visiting that performed at Emory to help with this cause.

·      St. Mary of Egypt are collecting items for the homeless to be delivered on December 21 by the youth to Saint John the Wonderworker. The community is also asking people to sign up to help with the Christmas day meal that takes place each year Saint John the Wonderworker.

We will take the month of December off and will meet again in the New Year. As such the next meeting to take place on Tuesday, January 28 at 7pm.
